I know what you mean about OC'ing waiting to see if it will stay up or crash each time you change something. I was looking at CPUZ on my i7 and I guess I did get it to stay at 3.2Ghz but with 3 gpu's on it I'm not going to try bigadv on it.
I still have 4 boards not in cases - in the basement - getin' kind of dusty too :D but they were cheap and don't need any special cooling, they do fine like that. However I may retire them before too long as I decided to go ahead and get an i7 980x to do some bigadv units on. :rolleyes: I think it should do better than my Mac Pro. I hope. The board has 2 x16 slots for gpu's - when I can afford a pair of GTX 480's :p

I been a browser of this forum for years, but never posted many threads, Picked up My black 16g wi-fi iPad 2 on launch day at Best Buy. The store was chaos, and it turned out to be a very lucky day. I told the stoner at the register I wanted to pay some of the balance in cash and the rest with my credit card. He counted the cash I gave him which was $230.00 looked dumbfounded for a moment, printed out a receipt and handed me my bag, followed by are we cool? I said yes, walked out and could not believe he never asked for the remaining balance. Walked out with a brand new ipad for 230.00 Wow!! Now normally I'm honest about things in that nature, but I have been screwed by Best Buy so many times I looked at it as being payback. Picked up a green smart cover incase sleeve and a STM micro ipad carry on sling pack, an excellent iPad combo. Yes, there are some minor issues with a little light bleed but no device is perfect, and it's not going to last 5 years. That really isn't anything to brag about.. If I saw that this happened I would make sure I paid in full and if I realized I only paid I would go back and make sure I paid. I don't want someone to get fired just because I got a few hundred dollars off without bringing it to his and his managers attention.. To me that is pretty much stealing..

Why is Apple the only tech company that makes unique products? All the other big ones seem to just drop in behind Apple after they invent something... Examples:
�Phones that are designed to simply compete with the iPhone.
�Pretty much every non-Apple tablet.
�iMac lookalikes.
�I've even seem some unibody copy cats...

And people kept telling me that OSX and iOS weren't going to merge in any meaningful manner for years ahead, if ever. Yeah right. I'd bet the one after this has them nearly fully merged and I mean towards iOS for the most part. OSX will be dumbed down to the lowest common brain cell and you won't be able to get free/open software anymore. It'll have to come through the App Store or not at all. Wait and see. That is the point I'll be moving on.

when a tv show comes out in the us the uk channels buy the rights from the us companies and this often means we don't get the shows in the UK for ages. and they don't come to ITunes in uk as it would be for apple to negotiate this with the uk tv company like channel 4.
some films are released internationally at the same time and so are the DVDs thus there is no reason why these films can't be released on an ITMS in the US, UK and wherever else the DVD would be released worldwide on the same date.

ahoy, this thread and recent events inspired me to sign up and share and maybe help as well.
i actually stumbled upon this thread from another message board not very long ago, and thought to myself what a terrible situation. well, around 1:30 am last saturday morning, three guys kicked in the front door to my house, went to my roomate's room and attacked him, stabbing him near 13 times. they stole his ps2, my 360 (no controllers or connection cords), my zune, my electric guitar, and the nunchuck to my wiimote. thankfully, none of the attack was fatal and my roomate is making a full recovery. tuesday of this past week, a friend calls to tell me that he sees my xbox live name online. i call microsoft and just like in your case, they are unwilling to give out the ip info, which in retrospect is definitely understandable. as i was on the phone with them, our detective calls me and tells me they found my zune and possibly my 360. the people responsible for the break in and attack had been doing numerous breakins and robberies and were finally apprehended. it ended up being a group of around 6 to 7 people, men and women, adults and teens. the ones involved in our situation are currently looking at 60 years each, and more years added on if it ends up being gang related.
my main reason for posting is this. i live in valdosta, ga. it's barley over an hour away from tallahassee. the detectives informed me that wherever these criminals were caught, they had stockpiles of stolen items, including quite a few xbox's. i know it's most likely a long shot, but from what we've been told, these guys have been up to it for a while. seeing as how we're not that far away, i thought that it may have been helpful. i know that if it did turn up, it'd be like an episode of "lost" what with coincidences and all, but i felt compelled to respond, seeing as how a week ago i read your story about becoming a victim, then i became one myself, and seeing as how it is looking hopeful at a possible return, thought i'd try and pass on a bit of hope too.
and i feel you on the guitar hero. i had only had it for two days, and the disc was inside my 360 when they took it.
Thats some crazy stuff. I can't believe they would stab someone for a PS2 and a 360. I'm supposed to meet with the investigator in charge of my case on Monday to see what is going on. Right now, the only hope is somehow getting the IP address they are using and its looking like I'm not getting my 360 back anytime soon.
On the brighter side, I've got renters insurance and some shiney new locks on my doors.

There can't even be interest in this anymore. What possible benefit could Apple obtain by moving to AMD? Marginally faster server processors? I simply can't believe Apple would spend any R&D (and there is always some R&D that has to be done, even if they are both x86 based) on this unless and until they need to pressure Intel to lower prices or something.

It'll only happen if people put up with it. The only way to voice your opinion sometimes in a capitalistic society is to simply walk away and not buy/put up with the offending product. I don't like Windows, but I wouldn't like the closed/app store only system on OSX proper either. Linux would be fine if they would standardize a few areas and get some commercial developers on-board (but a good part of that community doesn't like commercial anything).

Because the industry is going to the iPad like dumbed down devices for every day use, and in 10-15 years those devices will be fast enough for all of us to do almost everything on them. And those devices work much better (actually every device works much better) with a closed App Store due to much less App issues compared to an open market. I can't remember how many times my parents managed to "break" their apps on their mac and call me and fix it for them on the phone. They can't do the same on an iPad as easily. That's the whole idea of a closed system and closed App store. Which is what it should be in the first place.
PC's aren't actually personal computers. PC's have been designed by engineers, for engineers. So the people who use PC's with zero issues, and solve all their problems themselves are almost as technically proficient as engineers at the moment. And they don't want this to be so. They want every day idiots (I don't like calling my own parents idiots, but when it comes to computers, they are), be able to use these things without any issues. And that's gonna happen with this new paradigm.
Cloud computing is gonna be huge in 15 years or so. After some point we won't have CPU's at all, all the computation will be done in cloud and we'll just have inputs at home, like a keyboard and mouse or touch, and a screen. Many things will change, and the closed app store will be the least of your worries by then.

Android 2.3 (and I think 2.2) support wi/fi tethering in the OS, no app needed. If you have an android phone with 2.2 or 2.3 (I do because ATT service sucked where I live), just select SETTINGS then WIRELESS & Networks, then "Tethering & portable hotspot" to set the phone up as a wi/fi hub with data access.
I haven't used the iphone in a while (since moving to T-MO), so I don't know if IOS supports something similar.

- License agreement. They will do som smaller adjustments (clarifications) around the issue of changes to the license agreement would have effect on previously purchased music, the intention was not to have any effect on previously purchased music
- License agreement. They will do changes so it will be clearer to the user when the license agreement has been changed
- DRM, usage of iTunes music files in other players than iPod. They do not give in on this, their argument is 1) it is playable on the PC 2) it may be burned on a CD and played on other CD players. They also blend into the argument that Norway has a fairly new law with respect to music download and copy/usage rights and the different plotical parties and politicians have said "this and that" which may support Apples case. I would assume that sooner or later there will be a court case in order to put more details on the law and its interpretation. This may be it (or not).
With respect to this having impact on other countries there are some arguments in the letter which quotes EU/E�S laws, however their DRM arguments is mainly reflecting their interpretation of Norwegian law.

You know, I just want people to feel free to choose any computer platform they want, and lord knows we could use a few more Mac people - to, if nothing else, put more pressure on Microsoft and rock their boat, they're way too complacent. But I know a lot of people who feel alienated by Mac for two main reasons - one, the macdroids. Nobody wants to join that club. Two, Apple's infantile and insulting marketing. Slagging the competition is as low as anyone can sink. I've seen pimps with more dignified advertising methods than that. "Hello I'm a Mac / ...and I'm a PC, blah blah". Don't they realize how bad of an idea it is to brandish 97% of the world's computer users as complete idiots? They might as well say "Hello. I really hope the Zune becomes a real competitor and threat to Ipod. I am sick of apple sitting on their ass and giving us minimal improvements to the ipod. I want a wide screen, good battery life, THIN and sleek and sturdy. I will not buy a zune but I hope this pushes apple to bring us the goddamn widescreen ipod. :mad:

That is good to know, because 1.1.2 runs like crap on a Quad with a 6800GT and 8GB of RAM. Unacceptable, really. I basically abandoned the workflow and went back to Photoshop. I can actually get work done that way.
Damn then there must be something wrong with you Quad again Gary. I regularly use 1.1.2 on my 1.67 powerbook and I find it perfectly acceptable. And on my G5/X800XT it's super fast.
I think the issue with people finding it slow is there lack of understand of what Aperture is actually doing. And also not really knowing how to use Aperture to it's full potential.
Everybody wants everything to be instant but that will never happen.
I for one find the workflow of cataloguing, correcting and exporting in Aperture far faster and superior then any comparable app.

If Microsoft chose to log and aggregate this information, its currently not exposed for any support use. I'd recommend that he call Microsoft and have them disable the Live account, and file an insurance claim for the hardware and cut his losses."
